Fastest Fifty in IPL

The IPL has been famous for explosive matches, explosive sixes, and explosive innings. While we celebrate so many records in the grandest cricket league, one of the most thrilling one is the fastest fifty in IPL. Watching a batter smash bowlers all over the park and reach 50 in just a few balls is a treat for any cricket lover.

In this blog, we take a look at the fastest fifties scored in IPL history from 2008 to 2025. We also discuss some of the notable performances in recent times and the players who set the tournament alight with their flamboyant hitting.

What is the Fastest Fifty in IPL History?

The IPL record for the fastest fifty belongs to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored his fifty off just 13 balls while playing for the Rajasthan Royals against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Jaiswal’s knock stunned cricket fans. He opened the innings and went all guns blazing right from the start. His combination of fearless hitting and perfect timing saw him clear the ropes all over the ground.

Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Romario Shepherd smashed a fifty in just 14 balls against Chennai Super Kings on 3rd May 2025. His innings was full of sixes and brutal power-hitting, placing him in the joint-second position for fastest IPL fifties.

2. Vaibhav Suryavanshi – 17 Balls

This was a special knock. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young star from the Rajasthan Royals, scored 50 in just 17 balls against the Gujarat Titans on 28th April 2025. He became the youngest player to score a 50 in IPL history, a record in itself.

3. Heinrich Klassen – 17 Balls

South Africa’s Heinrich Klassen, playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, smashed a quickfire 50 off 17 balls against KKR on 25th May 2025. The match didn’t affect the standings, but his batting still turned heads.

4. Nicholas Pooran – 18 Balls

With his attacking shape, Nicholas Pooran of LSG smashed 50 off 18 balls against SRH on 27th March 2025. It was one of his many match-winning performances seen throughout the history of the IPL.

Players with Multiple Entries

Some players have appeared more than once in this list. Jake Frase-McGurk stands out with two 15-ball fifties in 2024. He did it against SRH on 20th April and repeated the performance against MI just a week later. These performances showed that his talent wasn’t a one-time fluke.

All-Time Legends of Fast Fifties

Let’s not forget some iconic names from earlier seasons who held the record at different points:

  • Chris Gayle (RCB) – 17 balls vs PWI (2013)
  • Yusuf Pathan (KKR) – 15 balls vs SRH (2014)
  • KL Rahul (PBKS) – 14 balls vs DC (2018)
  • Hardik Pandya (MI) – 17 balls vs KKR (2019)

These recognized names are part of the IPL’s enduring legacy of brute hitting.

Conclusion

In addition to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 13-ball fifty and Priyansh Arya’s fast, violent 103, we have seen some phenomenal batting performances during the years of IPL. Each year we are introduced to new players, and every fast fifty reminds us of just how exciting T20 cricket can be.

As the league becomes bigger, the competition only intensifies. With young stars like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyansh Arya coming through the ranks, there is every possibility that Yashasvi’s record will be surpassed soon enough.
